SPS is extremely proud to be working with North Yorkshire County Council on a very important scheme, which ensures that the residents of North Yorkshire Council are safe at all times. Should their residents ever feel uncertain, vulnerable, concerned, they are to make their way to a Safe Place, found throughout North Yorkshire and call our dedicated helpline. We will support that person, in ensuring that their 1st responder reaches them and that they feel safe again.

The Safe Places Scheme will offer such individuals, a secure location, signposted by the Safe Places logo should they get lost or become confused when venturing out on their own.

Members of the scheme carry a ‘keep safe’ card and may also have a wristband. On the card there is a dedicated number that can be contacted by the Safe Place to check the person’s details. We will then contact the person’s responders to make sure someone who knows them the best can come to take them home. The Safe Place provides a comfortable setting where vulnerable individuals can relax and wait for their responder to arrive.

Our involvement in this scheme includes provision of a dedicated helpline, supported by specially trained staff and procurement of all Safe Places promotional items such as the cards and the wristband, all uniquely identified.

We are also involved in registering Safe Places and sending out welcome packs, issuing all member packs, bands and cards, ensuring we have all the relevant contact information and communicating over all platforms.

In terms of registration, individuals can be registered via an application form, which will be sent directly to us. We will then send registered members a wristband and ID card, with our contact details and a unique ID. On stating the ID on this card, we will be able to contact the relevant individuals.

Venues and organisations can also register themselves as a Safe Place and these may range from libraries, shops and pharmacies to other commercial organisations.

The scheme is set to officially launch today (May 5th) and we are delighted to be a part of the service, one, which is sure to make a significant contribution to the North Yorkshire community.
