Giving back to local communities throughout the country is important to SPS.

Whether this is achieved through providing opportunities or through the services we offer, we love seeing the positive impact it can have and in cases help improve the lives of those living in the community.

So when Brentwood County High School approached SPS to see if we would support their Enrichment Week, we were more than happy to get involved.

The Enrichment Week initiative looks at year 12 students and aims to give them the best possible start to their careers after they leave the security of school. As we all remember, building experience at the start of your working career can be difficult, giving a student the opportunity to do this at SPS was a great chance for someone to build some key skills that can be applied to future roles.

We were delighted to offer our support to this initiative and welcomed Ryan Fitzgerald into the business for one week. Ryan then spent time with the National Operations Manager, went through an induction programme and shadowed him for a few days. After this we then took Ryan on site to be with more SPS staff. He was able to watch them on some clearance, steel and alarm security work.

Outside of gaining some experience in the field with SPS, we let Ryan try his hand at some paperwork, because all jobs involve some administration! It was clear from the outset that Ryan was very capable with spreadsheets, so we let him loose on some number and calculation. He was also shown how to use our online works order management, again giving him some vital experience in areas which are important to many jobs today.

After completing his week with SPS, we received a lovely report from Ryan. It was great to receive this feedback, knowing that he was encouraged from his time with us, made the experience worthwhile.

Everyone here at SPS was glad to have Ryan as part of the initiative. Our Managing Director, Shirley Duffus, spoke on the company’s involvement with the Enrichment Week.

“Supporting, assisting and giving back is an important part of what SPS does. Helping youngsters understand what is involved in some jobs stretches their skills and helps them see what aspects of working life they might like and might not like…such as admin! We wish Ryan the best of luck, and if we ever need help with spreadsheets, we know where to go!”
