You may recall back in May this year we brought you news about working with the DIY SOS team on a project in Manchester, in fact it was the biggest ever project undertaken by the DIY SOS team where they were converting a whole street of disused Victorian terraced houses into something rather special.

If you watched last night’s BBC programme, DIY SOS: Home for Veterans, you will know just how special the project really was, and why we are pleased to have played a small part in bringing it all together.

The project was to convert the Victorian buildings, that were previously scheduled for demolition, into purpose designed accommodation for ex-servicemen who were injured in service.  The purpose of the accommodation is to help them during the period they are retraining and coming to terms with the scars of active service.  We were truly moved by the devastating injuries, and the after effects caused by active service.  Families ripped apart by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder will now have a realistic chance of a better future simply because of this project.

The programme more than adequately outlined the need for this kind of accommodation and it was heart-warming to see the amount of people who gave their time to celebrate the bravery of our armed forces personnel.  We were involved in securing the premises each day during the filming of the programme, a small part of the overall project we know, however as we saw on the programme, every little bit helps to make these dreams become reality.  We are very proud and thankful to have been involved.

You can see the second part of SOS DIY: Home for Veterans next Wednesday evening, however you should take some time to catch up with Part 1 on the BBC iPlayer before then, you will be truly moved and inspired by the effort of the SOS team, the generosity of the volunteers, and the bravery of the servicemen and their families.

You can watch the first programme on the BBC iPlayer here.
