This year’s John Lewis’s Christmas advert pulled at the heart strings once again, making us all consider the lonely souls celebrating the festive season alone.
This got us thinking about lone workers and the vulnerability they experience throughout the year, as they operate in isolation of others and therefore require extra protection while performing their duties.
In a grand gesture, the little girl in the John Lewis advert sets out to send a message to the man on the moon, to let him know someone is thinking about him. In the same way, we want to let lone workers know that their protection is our priority.
This year, our new SPS StaySafe app can be your gift to your lone workers, to let them know you care, and to enable a form of communication to ensure their safety while carrying out work.

In offering the man on the moon a telescope just like her own, the little girl provides a way to communicate, no matter how far they are from each other. Like the telescopes, our app also allows for two-way communication, throughout the entire process.
Audio communication is available using the app, as is GPS tracking, allowing us to locate our workers, even if signal fails. We are notified of both workers’ arrival on site and their status throughout the job. They can then notify us when they have completed their work and we can record their status as ‘safe’.
In terms of worker status, the app features a panic button and ‘man-down’ shock sensor facility, to alert our Response Centre of any problems. This service not only offers piece of mind for employers, but also friends and family by reassuring them of your safety at work.
Vulnerability is a prominent problem, not only for lone workers but also for a large number of individuals in society. Unfortunately, this issue is highlighted a great deal more during the festive season, when in reality it is an on-going concern throughout the year.
Our call handling services offer a solution to this, by providing a 24/7 responsive service, whether it’s relating to medical emergencies, major incidents or anti-social behaviour. In our ageing population, this service is particularly useful for elderly individuals who may find themselves in vulnerable situations, in need of assistance.
The John Lewis advert has effectively highlighted the importance of communication and we can only agree! It’s not exactly a telescope, but we do offer a wide range of services, in the interest of reducing vulnerability whether you’re working or living alone.
SPS products and services are available on a range of flexible hire and purchase options, so why not contact us to discuss how we can help, on 08457 62 65 42, sales@spsdoorguard.com, or via our Contact Us page on the menu bar. We look forward to hearing from you.
